December was good to us; although forecasts threatened chilly temperatures, the reality was pleasant conditions throughout the main part of the day, with only a slight drizzle at the end to make control pickup more eventful.
Control FP (Blue #9, Red #8). Pilfered. Filched. Purloined. Misappropriated. Swiped. Gestohlen. Rubato. I don't know what dastardly blackguard walked off with this control, but I hope it inspires them to a lifetime of orienteering pursuits and a long string of good deeds to atone for their guilty conscience. In the end though, the fault is mine: I set the advanced controls earlier in the week, completely failing to take into account the trail which passed nearby (and probably in visual range of) the saddle in question. Mea culpa.
Finally, with respect to the better side of human nature, we had a great deal of assistance with control pickup. We would like to thank Mike Brooks, Harry Shaw, Ken Walsh, Bill Ebenstein, Vladimir Stemkovski, Tatyana Stemkovski, Michael Stemkovski, Charles Scharlau, and the Troop 424 Scoutmaster. Remember, one of the easiest ways to help our orienteering club is to hang out until after 3:00 and let the event director know that you are willing to assist with picking up controls; we can even use assistance with pickup up the white and yellow level courses. Not only do you get to find a couple of extra controls for the day, you also make yourself very popular, and get to do your part in making running one of these events the pleasure that it is. In addition, Ruth Bromer and Joseph Huberman assisted with the map printing and Joseph Huberman taught the class at 12:30.
