BubbaGoat 2006 Results

In addition to regular White, Yellow, Orange and Green Courses, the 2006 Bubba Goat meet featured a 12.4K Bubba Goat course and a 6.7K Pigmy Goat course. For the Bubba and Pigmy courses, following was allowed, goats could skip one control, and there was a fork on the course where goats had to choose which fork to take. Based on a survey of most goat finishers, most took the fork to control number 6 rather than risk the light green along the handrail to control number 5. Control number 20 (Bubba) and 10 (Pigmy) was the control that most goats skipped. This is the same control on both courses. Goats that skipped that control banked on Reedy Creek being crossable which it was with the dry weather. Some goats decided to skip control number 3 and take the road route to control number 4 which was longer but easier to run. At least one goat on the Bubba course decided to skip control number 13.

The Bubba course was hotly contested with Brendan Shields nosing out David Currie by less than a second with a time of 1:38:06 (hr:mm:sec). That was amazingly close for a 12.4K course. Lori Huberman was the top female Bubba (I’m not sure there can be a female Bubba) with a time of 3:08:47. Joseph Huberman was first on the Pigmy course with a time of 1:05:40. Ruth Bromer was the top female Pigmy with a time of 1:43:55. The top male and female Bubba finishers and the top male and female Pigmy finishers shared a goat head cake which they, in turn, had to share with the rest of the goat herd. In addition to first place awards, two goats were recognized for flair. Artem Kazantsev wore an unusual hat during the event (olive green, pointy on top, red star on front). You’ll have to get him to tell you its significance sometime. William Ebenstein burst into the clearing at the finish line sporting a deer skull and antlers on his head and bleating in fine goat fashion. While there is a little disconnect there – deer antlers and goat bleating – his effort was sufficient to share in the flair award.

Jacob deForest was first on white with a time of 45 minutes; Ron Brown was first on yellow with a time of 45 minutes; Allie Fowler and Laura Back were first on Orange with a time of 48 minutes; and Erguene Roundibov (sp) was first on Green with a time of 1 hour and 14 minutes.
